A dry, if very windy day saw Diss arrive with men to spare, despite still missing several regulars due to holidays and injury. The conditions were such that accurate passing and kicking was always going to be a lottery, and the Ipswich team looked massive.

With several players in unusual positions Diss started brightly for a change and were an unconverted try to the good in less than one minute after Oscar Seaman touched down in the corner.

Joseph Hegarty scored shortly afterwards and Hayden Watling converted to make it 12-0 in four minutes and it seemed a cricket score was likely. Ipswich, however were not going to give in easily and soon began to dominate several aspects of play, with their large forwards getting field position and feeding their fast and dangerous backs. After a superb forwards move by the Ipswich pack, the Diss forwards were pushed off the ball, Diss defended their line well but perseverance won through and Ipswich were soon between the posts for an unconverted try of their own.

A very close 20 minutes ensued with neither team getting the upper hand and conditions causing some sloppy play, before Hegarty ran the length of the pitch, after Ipswich looked likely to score, to put down at the other end.

Ipswich were not finished and got one back shortly after, before Watling put the game beyond doubt, with a good run down the wing. Ipswich scored a consolation try at the death to make the final score 22-17 in favour of the visitors. It really could have gone either way as Ipswich have some very capable players.
