Diss Under 15’s Win Again

Diss began short of 9 regulars due to injury and family commitments but were soon ahead by 14 points as Oscar Seaman and Joe Hegarty ran in tries in the first three minutes, both converted by Campbell Young.

Such is the strength and depth of Diss at this age level; missing regular team members does not necessarily impact on the final score. Much of this is down to great team spirit, excellent coaching and the fact all boys who attend the match, play in the match, thus player numbers are actually increasing-unusual at this age level.

As the half progressed Luke Miller scored in the corner, before Hegarty got his second, both conversions missed by Young to make it a comfortable 24-0 at half time.

What looked as though it might have been a rout in the second half did not actually happen as Diss took their foot of the pedal a bit and the half was more evenly contested. Colchester managed a good score of their own (unconverted) but it did not look like a comeback was on the cards at any time. Hegarty scored another three (10 tries in 2 games for the Ninja who was also Captain today!) before Thomas Webster went in at the corner after some good work from the backs. None of these scores were converted and the game ended 44-5.

Diss will be disappointed that the result was not considerably greater and that they allowed the opposition to score at all, but the forwards did not chase the game with their usual vigour and occasional loose handling by the backs meant several sitters were missed, however for the team not to play at their best and still win by a margin will be pleasing for the coaches.
