Diss Under 15’s v North Walsham

Both teams were short of players due to injury and county commitments. Diss had 20 turn up and Walsham 12. Walsham borrowed some (very handy as it transpired) Diss under 14 players and battle commenced at the unusually early time of 10.30.

Walsham may have been short of numbers but the players that they did bring proved to be very capable indeed! A good move from the Diss forwards put Jake Grant in for his first try between the posts and Campbell Young converted. Diss were soon defending however as a determined Walsham attack ended up with a score after some very tenacious forward play. The conversion was missed but Diss knew that they had a game on their hands.

Diss regrouped and before long Diss number 8 Charlie Hay took advantage of a kick through to touch down and Harvey Baker added a further score 2 minutes later (neither converted) to put Diss at a comfortable 17-5 lead.

New boy James Fountain was next to cross the whitewash after some very good forwards play and Tom Storey added a further classic scrum half try right at the end of the first half. Again neither was converted.

The second half was a little closer. Walsham having been lent Diss stalwart Tyrone Lock at prop began to contest the scrums better and won a couple against the head. They added a further unconverted score to make more of a match of it before Hayden Watling put himself in with a great solo effort and Grant added his second. Watling was successful with both conversions.

So it ended 41-10 to Diss, after another good performance from the top under 15’s team in Norfolk. Fair play to the Walsham boys who competed till the end and showed how along with Holt, they are the Diss boys greatest threats locally.
