Diss U15's 15 v 29 Ipswich YM
By Andy Jermy
Tough game and an opportunity missed
Diss were asked to start strong and show the intensity which had been lacking in other games. Within the first two minutes the pack drove deep into the YM 22 before releasing the backs. Ben Waters stepped through the defence to get the first try.
Unfortunately the Diss scrum was disjointed throughout the game and there were too many occasions when we lost, what should have been, our ball and didn't compete on theirs. This weakness ultimately led to two Ym tries and yet with time running out in the first half Diss held a scrum securing their own put in. Quick hands in the backs meant Joe Jermy could go over to score. 10-12 at half time.
four minutes into the second half and YM scored again. Diss were still within a converted try at this point. On 10 minutes Diss had a penalty inside their own half which Ben Waters kicked deep into the Ym half. At the line out the ball was fed to the backs who passed wide and Finlay Martin came into the line taking the ball at pace and scoring in the corner.
Ipswich scored two late tries to give them a more impressive scoreline. Diss played with an improved attitude and intensitythroughout They were superbly led by captain Fred Potter, but the huge lesson for Diss was that we need to secure all our ball at the scrum to give us a better chance.
