Diss U15's 21 v 24 North Walsham

Close game in a muddy battle.

On a wet, windy and very muddy morning, Diss and North Walsham played a game of high drama and considering the conditions one of true skill and endeavour. Playing for the right to be in the Norfolk Cup final on the Big rugby weekend in May saw both sides leave nothing at all on the field of play. Diss attacked from the outset with Drew Harris cleverly slotting the ball deep into the Walsham half. Throughout the game the Diss forwards competed in a ferocious manner. Freddie Potter, Henry Robinson and Josh Hayhoe all setting the tone for the whole game. Following the delivery of fast ruck ball Ben Waters crashed over to open the scoring. Converting his own try.
Walsham responded in a typical forthright fashion scoring two well executed tries of there own whilst handling the ball superbly considering the wet conditions.
Diss rallied in response going very close to scoring believing that they had got the ball down at the foot of the post. One simple handling error then cost the home side dearly. Spilling the ball in midfield then allowed the visitors to score a third try to lead by twelve points. Diss were not finished however. Driving through their forwards close to the line, Bryce Cochrane spotted a gap , diving through it he was able to secure the try. Ben Waters converting to leave the score at half time at 19-14 to North Walsham.
As underfoot conditions deteriorated the standard of play improved further with both teams giving no quarter. A superb interception from Joe Jermy gave Diss a deserved 21-19 lead with the final quarter approaching. Walsham then secured clean possession scoring a well taken unconverted try with some ten minutes remaining. As hard as Diss pressed, stoic Walsham defence held out. This ended a superb game of rugby that all the boys from both teams should be so proud of.
