A titanic struggle

Ipswich 27 Diss 24
Yet again this week the Diss Under 14’s were involved in a titanic struggle against a strong and well organised Ipswich unit. Compared to last week when it took Diss a complete half to settle into the game the whole side seemed totally focussed from the off and following an excellent pass from Ben Waters, Finlay Martin raced through from outside the Ipswich 22 to score an excellent unconverted try. Ipswich responded in a very positive manner putting the Diss team under intense pressure. Following an interception from the Ipswich centre Finlay Martin saved the day with an outstanding covering tackle. Ipswich maintained the pressure throughout the half and only a tremendous effort from the Diss defensive line kept the home side at bay. Drew Harris epitomised the effort being made defensively by making a number of crucial try saving tackles .Eventually pressure told and Diss conceded two well taken Ipswich tries to enter half time 12-5 down.
Throughout the game Diss were yet again conceding far too many penalties at the breakdown. That said, from the restart Joe Jermy scored a superb individual try from within his own-half. Taking the ball from a slick three quarter move he chipped ahead to regather the ball and score under the posts. Owen Davies stepped up to convert to bring the scores level. Diss then lost concentration giving away needless penalties and falling off far too many tackles. Ipswich capitalised scoring two excellent tries of their own to take a twelve point lead. Coach Jermy kept rotating the team and eventually this paid off with Jamie Wilks scoring an excellent rampaging try to bring Diss within a converted try. Sustained pressure then allowed Ben Waters to bring the away support to its feet with an excellent try created from continuity between the forwards and backs. Diss had yet again fought back with real spirit. Unfortunately a final error at the Breakdown gave Ipswich a penalty from which they won the game. Yet another wonderful game for all involved. Well done to all the players and coaches. The Bartrams Training man of the match is awarded to Drew Harris for his defensive work on the wing.
