U14's too strong for Norwich

Diss produced a performance of outstanding quality against a Norwich side that remained determined in the face of a relentless onslaught. Scoring thirteen tries and converting ten highlighted the rapid progress being made by this age group. Whilst certain individuals dominated proceedings, the pace at which the game was played ,coupled with the accurate distribution and handling skills of the entire Diss squad meant that the home support were treated to a number of beautifully crafted tries from well within their own half. Diss attacked from the outset, with the forwards driving deep into the Norwich half to set up Freddie Potter, who raced over from the half way line. From the kick off Ben Waters broke clear to yet again off-load to Freddie Potter, who scored his second try of the game within four minutes. Inter- play between Tom Parks and Myles Clark then released Ben Waters to score a third unanswered try for a rampant Diss side, who were now playing total rugby from all parts of ground. With only ten minutes played Joe Jermy found space and raced over for a superb individual try that increased the Diss lead to a substantial 26 points. Tom Parks then scored one of the tries of the season. Joe Jermy was put into space wide on the left. Intelligently he orchestrated a deft grubber through the Norwich defence that allowed Tom Parks to accelerate onto, to then score a try of mature quality. Norwich showed real character at this stage, scoring a well deserved try to bring a level of semblance to the game. Diss soon recovered from this reverse with Lucus Ricketts scoring a wonderful individual try from the half way line. Freddie Potter completed his hat trick to extend the Diss half time lead to 45-5. The second half proved to be a very one sided affair with a tiring Norwich side beginning to fall off more and more tackles. A determined drive from Isaac Powell saw him score early in the half. The game did begin to break up at this stage as space opened up at every attacking opportunity. Stanley Spurdens capitalised to score following clever play from Myles Clark. Diss also became a little lazy when carrying the ball. Players need to remember that a ball in two hands gives you far more options to off- load and protect the ball. As the half developed Ben Waters began to take control from fly half. Dominating possession on the front foot Ben scored three tries that reflected his growing maturity as a player. Joe Jermy also completed his hat -trick to secure a very fine performance from the entire Diss Under 14’s. This was without doubt a complete team performance. Colchester next week will pose a completely different challenge. That said, that is exactly what the side needs at this stage of the season. Tom Parks was voted the ‘Bartrums’ man of the match.
