The Eastern Counties Plate finals were hosted by Ipswich RFC and Diss played them in the first 25 minute game. A very closely fought match was secured by Diss with a breakaway try by Lucas Dade-Ricketts which was converted by Ben Waters for a 7-0 win. After a 10 minute break Diss stayed on the pitch to play Newmarket. This was an equally tight game which was 0-0 at half time. Diss were tiring towards the end of the second half and their indiscipline led to a Newmarket converted try. The Diss defence held out until the last few seconds of the game when the Newmarket winger ran from his own 22 to score a second. A Newmarket 14-0 win. They then stayed on to play out the last fixture against Ipswich which resulted in a Ipswich 7-0 victory.
So to conclude all three teams won and lost a game but by beating Diss by the extra try the trophy will travel back to Newmarket - congratulations.
Diss now look forward to the Norfolk RFU plate final next Sunday at Mackenders.
