A well deserved end of season celebration

Diss U14’s took to the field against West Norfolk in the Norfolk RFU Plate Final determined to complete their best season to date with silverware. The coaches had asked for a high intensity start and ensure the first score. Within minutes a scrum 10 metres out meant the ball went to Stan Spurdens at 12 to go over for the first try. 5-0
The West Norfolk forwards were sizeable opposition but the Diss forwards set a maul from a lineout and then released the backs to pass all the way out to the wing and Drew Harris sprinted onto the pass to score. 10-0
The support play was impressive, and with Ben Faulkner coming into the line to bolster a backs move he crashed through the defence to score. 15-0
Minutes before the kick off club stalwart and forwards coach Tony Wigby rehearsed the mauls from a lineout with the pack. Ben Waters kicked a penalty to the corner and a ‘Wigby’ ball was called. The Diss pack drove the maul towards the line until within a metre when Miles Clark at scrum half pulled the ball from the maul and dived through a gap in the West defence to score. 20-0
Not wishing to be out done by their team mates the back line then called a move designed by backs coach James Hayhoe. The ball was quickly fed through the backs from one side of the pitch to the other wing and Finlay Martin grabbed his chance to finish the move and score under the posts. This try was converted and meant Diss led 27-0 at half time.
West Norfolk hadn’t given up and competed throughout. As the second half started their forwards got within the Diss 5 metres and despite a very determined defence they started a continual pick and drive until they scored. 27-5
Diss returned to playing phases, driving up field until the ball went out to the backs again. Finlay Martin broke through 3 tackles on his way to score his second. 32-5
West Norfolk weren’t finished and got an interception try to bring the score to 32-10.
Next to score for Diss was Tom Parks-Lewis with a trademark strong run on the wing 37-10
West Norfolk were battling hard to defend their try line but gave away a penalty which Bryce Cochrane tapped and popped the ball to Isaac Powell who reached forward from the tackle to sit the ball down over the try line. The try was converted for a score of 44-10.
Diss could sense the end of the game was near and with one last backs move Bryce Cochrane passed wide to Joe Jermy. Joe jinked his way through the West backs before passing to Stan Spurdens to score his second of the day. Diss won 49-10
