Is this as good as it gets?
Maybe, but at the very least it was very, very good and a day when the coach and supporters all went home purring. It was a day when everything came together: perfect weather; a good pitch; a wide pitch to suit our speedy backs; a day when all of the players contributed to their full ability.
Swaffham never gave in and fully deserved their try by James. However, this was a day when Diss were irrepressible. Their forwards dominated the scrums, lineouts and loose play, giving the backs plenty of opportunities to run the ball. The backs in turn showed some terrific handling, direct running and a lot of raw pace, the icing on the cake being five scores by the wings.
The Diss tries were contributed by Dom (6), Aaron, Harry and Riccardo (3 each), Liam (2), Jack and Toby Drake (1 each). However, this was a true team performance with a lot of unselfish play and good support work. Particularly impressive were the deft offloads (with Aaron especially prominent), leading directly to tries.
Half an hour after the match the coach still couldn’t decide who was the Diss player of the day and would probably have struggled to think of a player who had a poor match – it was that kind of day; congratulations to everyone who took part.
And finally, if this isn’t as good as it gets, I hope I am watching when the team put on a better performance.
And finally, finally, after four hours thought, Mark decided that Dom and Harry were his joint players of the day (with about 10 players a very close second!).
