Mud, mud.... glorious mud

It was a gloriously sunny, but cold, morning when we arrived at Crusaders for our match with them and Swaffham. Originally there were fears that the games may have to be cancelled due to the pitches being frozen, however the sun soon took the frost off the grass and turned it into....mud. Lots and lots and lots of mud! Undeterred, our wonderful two team squad (21 kids in all) played their hearts out, showing that they have been listening to the coaches recently (honest!) - with much more confident rucking, scrums, tackling and passing. There was even a fantastic switch pass which pleased head coach Thorpey no end! We believe that overall we got the better of our competition, despite the conditions which were (eh-hem) a tad slippery, it has to be said. The kids, of course, absolutely loved the mud (see the video of them mud sliding on the pitch.... sorry Crusaders, might take a while for your pitches to come back from that!) The Mums have taken out shares in Vanish and there are plenty of busy washing machines as I type this. If someone could just let me know who decided that Diss should have white shorts, I'd be grateful as I'd like to have a word - thanks!

I read a piece on Facebook this morning about a girl from L&Y under 10s who is being bullied at school for choosing to play rugby. To date she has had over 300 replies from girls, parents and women players from all walks of life, and from all over the country, offering her their support. We are fortunate indeed to belong to such a caring sport and a wider "rugby family". One of our own girls' mums wrote in response, "smile in the knowledge that you are a far better person than them. And if all else fails - rugby tackle them!"
