Valuable game time for U15s

Match Report
U15s Sudbury/Diss v Old Albanians 24/11/19

Five girls, Bee, Megan, Scarlett, Phoebe and Bells played for Sudbury U15's in a 15 a side game against Old Albanians on a grey gloomy day.
The OA's were s good well drilled team who were better at rucking, getting too many turnovers at the breakdown. As a result they had the bulk of the possession. However the Diss/Sudbury girls played with a lot of spirit and snuffed out most of the OA's attacking play with good crossfield cover and tackling. Bee at fullback fielded a lot of kicks and usually made good ground with her runs, and cut off OA attacks with cover tackles. Phoebe was at flyhalf or inside centre and was notable for powerful straight running over the gain line. It was not her fault the support was often a bit slow getting there, allowing the OA's to dominate the breakdown. We couldn't see much of Scarlett, which is a compliment, because it meant she was in the thick of the scrum action working hard to stop the OA's forward progress and to secure the ball where possible. Bells and Megan in the back row were working their socks off cutting down the OA hordes as they came rushing on, or providing an attacking link with the threequarters when we were in possession. There was one occasion when we secured possession in our own half and it was the Diss girls who took the ball up the field supporting each other, until they got well into the OA's 22 where from a ruck, the Sudbury scrumhalf scooted down the blindside to score.
The final score was 27 - 12 to the Old Albanians, who were probably better drilled in support play and passing, and at the breakdown. However the Sudbury/Diss girls put up a gutsy display, and it would probably be fair to say that the 5 Diss girls who showed leadership in the way they performed when some heads began to drop at the beginning of the second half.
Anyway, that was the third time this season we have made the long trip to Sudbury. Thank goodness we have a home game ‪next Sunday‬ against - guess who - Sudbury!
