Diss with a win but a messy ending

Diss U16s v Newmarket U16s

Diss played host to Newmarket on this pleasant autumn afternoon, a rescheduled game cancelled four weeks ago. Both teams low on numbers. Diss 14 players and Newmarket with 12 players. Diss loaned a player, each to play 13 aside.
Diss started as the strongest team. A run down the wing from full back Nat Strange, but was tackled down with a high tackle. Ref called a penalty. The ball taken in to the middle for Tom Elkins to run in, but was called held up. From the scrum the ball went to John Webster then to Kyle Harwood Lefevre on the wing to dive over for a try. A distance to far for him to convert kick.
Newmarket shortly came back with a converted try to take take the lead 5 – 7.
Diss came running back at Newmarket , brilliant offloading to finish at the corner for a try from Nat Strange. Again to far for Kyle to convert.
Another attack on the left wing as James Webster ran in then offloaded behind as he was tackled, to Ben Brown to break through tackles to score. Unconverted.
Diss running at Newmarket again. George Jones threw a great dummy pass then popped the ball to Tom Elkins to take it under the posts. Kyle converted this one with ease. Half time 22 – 7 to Diss.
Diss thought they had the game sewn up, and were surprised from a quick penalty run in , untackled from five metres.
From then the game got scrappy. Newmarket had a man sent off for ten minutes for a second high tackle, a Diss player came off with an injury. After the Newmarket player came back on, Diss lost a player, being sent off. Diss now playing 11 players to 13. Diss coach asked for a loaned player to be taken back. Tempers flew from Newmarket spectators and players, until a player was removed from the field for cursing the Diss coach. No further scores in the game. A dull finish to a game that started well.
A nice win for Diss from teams of equal standards and unusual team quantites.
Final score Diss 22 – Newmarket 12
