Diss U16's 17 v 14 Ipswich YM RFC

The opening game of the season was a tough encounter with a very well organised Ipswich YM side. Diss had a strong start but with two sides so evenly matched we were in for a tremendous game. The Diss forwards put on a commanding performance and this was evident when awarded a 5 m scrum Captain Fred Potter picked up at number eight and burrowed his way through the YM defence to score. 5-0
The play was always even with both sides battling and Ipswich were rewarded with a converted try of their own resulting in a 5-7 scoreline at 1/2 time.
Diss were again bystanders as YM made the better start to the second half, skipping through weak Diss tackling they scored again 5-14. Diss seemed to have had their confidence knocked and with the regulation changes to the side they were asked to stick to the plan. With renewed enthusiasm and the forwards now dominating there was a series of pick and drive moves to allow Noah Molenaar to score. The try was converted by Tom Parks-Lewis 12-14.
With time now approaching Diss continually attacked the YM line without breaking through. The Ym defence tried to play out of defence but Joe Jermy effectively picked their pocket and ripped the ball away to crash into the corner. This unconverted try gave Diss the win 17-14.
A very well deserved win in dry, warm difficult conditions. The Anglian Demolition man of the match was awarded to Josh Hayhoe for a rampaging performance of go forward rugby.
