Newmarket U16's 19 V 26 Diss

Diss U16's arrived at Newmarket to find a strong wind blowing down the pitch and the low winter sun in their eyes. They had to play the first half with the elements against them. Newmarket took full advantage and whilst Diss were competitive we fell into the trap of losing possession by throwing the ball around too much and not competing at the breakdown. Newmarket profited by taking the opportunities presented to them and led 12 - 0 at half time.
As the second half started, Diss found the wind at their backs but still allowed Newmarket to continue the scoring and they added another converted try 19 - 0
The delayed fight back was about to start though and after a good catch and drive at the line out Lewis McNamara drove for the line and popped a great pass to Drew Harris to score in the corner. Converted by Ben Waters 19-7
Very shortly afterwards Josh Hayhoe made a determined run through the Newmarket pack and passed to the supporting Ben Waters who carried the run forward and scored. Ben Converted his try 19 - 14
The play was now all Diss on the front foot and after three penalties inside the Newmarket 10 meters line they persevered with the forward play allowing Will Wright to score an excellent try. 19-19
The last Diss try was a well executed move with Ben Waters kicking through the Newmarket backs for Drew Harris to run onto the kick and collect the ball. With Drew in full flight Newmarket couldn't catch him and he scored under the posts.19-26.
Newmarket renewed their fight for the win and hammered away at the Diss try line. Finlay Martin tackled like a man possessed and prevented several Newmarket attacks from progressing but the Anglian Demolition Man of the Match goes to Elliot Fulcher. Elliot made two tackles which were without doubt try saving and ensured our win - awesome defence
