Diss produced the perfect start to their League season with a hard fought and fully deserved victory over local rivals Ipswich. Coaches David Smith and Roger Coombs would have been delighted with the overall performance and the professional manner adopted in the second half to close the game out.
The opening exchanges were dominated extensively by a confident Ipswich side, who attacked with determination through the midfield by using their large and mobile back-row. The early exchanges had been very competitive, as befitting a fixture between two grand Old Clubs. Diss now responded on 8 minutes with a well worked try, that saw veteran lock forward Paul Cayley in possession. Cayley was able to break through and whilst being tackled off-loaded to Kieran Pask , who scored wide on the right. Pask was unsuccessful with the conversion. Ipswich responded immediately with a well–worked, converted try of their own.

The flow of the game now fluctuated from end to end with both sides trying to establish a foot–hold from which to attack further. On 30 minutes Diss grasped the initiative and drove around the fringes, eventually releasing Giles West, who scored a well taken individual try . Pask missed the conversion and Diss entered half time 10-5 to the good.

Diss now dominated most facets of play in the second half and on 55mins following an Ipswich infringement at a ruck ,Kieran Pask was able to extend the Diss lead to 13-7 as the game entered its final quarter. The defensive effort of the Diss side was impressive throughout the game, with Matt Cullum and Michael Fuller constantly halting any Ipswich threat. Diss now introduced Tim Groom to the fray. Groom had an immediate effect at the scrum and following further driving play the three–quarters launched a wonderful attack at pace through Phil Lelievre. When Le Lievre was tackled close to the Ipswich try line, he was able to slip the ball to Giles West who scored his second try of the day. Pask converted to increase the lead to 20-7.

Diss now closed the game out with consummate ease. Jamie Burroughs and Jack Peacock both had commanding games from halfback and the entire Diss back-row dominating the breakdown in the final passages of play. A most accomplished team performance that will send a positive message to future opponents.
