Diss secured a fourth consecutive League victory against Campion in deteriorating conditions at Mackenders.

Diss secured a fourth consecutive League victory against Campion in deteriorating conditions at Mackenders. Throughout the season Diss have been notoriously slow starters and this encounter proved no different. Campion were certainly up for the game and immediately put the home side under intense pressure. With the elements behind them and an accurate driving strategy, Campion fully deserved their first try on 3 minutes. Diss soon replied with a Sean McClure penalty to then be subjected to a twenty minute period of total domination from the Essex outfit. During this period ‘Man of the Match’, Michael Fuller kept Diss in touch with an outstanding defensive performance that never faltered throughout the game. On 18 minutes Campion scored a further try following handling errors inside the Diss half.

As the first half drew to a conclusion Diss sprang into life with Full back Sean McClure breaking clear in midfield to score and bring the home side back into the game. McClure had a wonderful game overall and on 39 minutes broke from his own half eventually feeding George Gooderham, who scored close to the posts allowing McClure to convert, thus taking Diss into a rather fortuitous half time lead.

Early exchanges in the second half indicated that the visitors were beginning to succumb to intensive Diss pressure. A rampaging run by Kimi Latu set up a sequence of attacking 5metre scrummages that should have resulted in points for the home side, that said, the energy was gradually being sapped from the visitors and following superb interplay between Philip LeLeivre and Sean McClure, Matt Cullum stormed over to score. Diss were now in the ascendancy and attacking at every opportunity.

In the last ten minutes Diss totally ripped Campion apart. Moving the ball across the field in all directions and at pace allowed veteran, Paul Cayley the opportunity to score from out wide. Philip LeLeivre then broke through jinking his way to the line for McClure to then convert. Chris Trede, completed affairs with a final Diss try, converted by McClure to end formalities 41-15.
