Following last week’s narrow Intermediate Cup victory, Diss return to League action, entertaining Sudbury to Mackenders. Since the New Year, Diss have performed well below par having suffered two crucial League defeats to Saffron Walden and Cantabrigians. A more consistent and collective approach will be needed to combat a side that traditionally moves the ball wide at every opportunity. Of late Diss have performed too much as individuals and regularly failed to take full advantage of attacking opportunities when presented.
Roger Coombs selects a much stronger side this week. Paul Cayley and Jo Brock return to the engine room with Captain Fraser Hall and Michael Fuller strengthening the back row. A decision still has to be made regarding the availability and fitness of Number eight John Laurie. In the three quarters Jamie Burroughs returns after a two week break to partner Jack Peacock at half back. The back three partnership of Sean McClure, Giles West and Phillip LeLeivre will certainly be guaranteed quality possession from a dominating pack. The whole Diss back division will however have to meticulous with respect to its own defensive structures in order to nullify Sudbury’s attacking potential.
