Diss ended their League campaign in style against a determined and courageous Ipswich side.

Diss ended their League campaign in style against a determined and courageous Ipswich side. A packed house at Mackenders witnessed an entertaining encounter, with both sides attempting to play an open expansive game. Whilst the game lacked precision and cohesion at times, both sides should be commended on their honest endeavours and the wholehearted passion exhibited all afternoon.

Ipswich took an early lead following a Diss infringement at a defensive ruck. Harry Stenton stepping up to convert the penalty. The Diss faithful were soon purring on the touchline having witnessed a well -executed driving maul that gave Kimi Latu the opportunity to crash over to bring the home side back into the game. Diss now dominated the remainder of the first half. On 18 minutes a series of neat and accurate off-loads released Sean McClure through the heart of the Ipswich defence to score a superbly worked team try. McClure converted his own try and was rapidly involved again, helping to create a try scoring opportunity for the Flying Frenchman, Philip LeLievre. With the conversion missed, Diss now led 17-3 with the clock ticking down to half time. On the stroke of half time Giles West tore through the Ipswich defence to complete the half with Diss comfortably in the ascendency.

Diss opened the second half, yet again on the front foot, playing an open style of rugby from all areas of the park. Unfortunately a series of handling errors and over ambitious off –loads led to the third quarter having no real pattern. The Diss back -row combination of John Laurie and Kimi Latu were now running free and dominating all contact areas. On 70 minutes Philip LeLievre broke clear and sent through a delightful grubber kick to set up Giles West for his second try of the afternoon. As the game drew to its conclusion, Diss dominated all facets of the game producing a more cohesive style of play. From an attacking five metre line out, a well-executed set piece move involving the ever present Jamie Burroughs, Captain Matt Richards and finally Paul Cayley allowed Cayley to crash over from two metres. A fitting end to a most enjoyable and entertaining game.
