DISS RFC 12 NORTH WALSHAM RFC 51
For the second week running Diss found themselves under intense pressure from the first minute, conceding an early try following a high level of continuity from a North Walsham team intent on opening the game up from all areas of the field. This style of play proved to be a thorn in the side of the home side all afternoon. A second Walsham try following excellent work from a driving line out placed Diss even further behind after ten minutes thus having to play catch up rugby for the rest of the game.
North Walsham played at an intense pace and began to dominate through their sharp and pacey three quarters. After 20 minutes, Diss began to establish more of a foot hold in the game, establishing territory and beginning to dictate phases within the game. The Diss eight certainly had parity and began to break up the smooth flow of Walsham attacks. Led by Captain, John Bergin and the ever present Jon Trede, Diss rattled the Walsham eight and began to move possession of their own. The half back combination of Alex Leader and George Jones placed the home side on the front foot allowing Jon Trede to score minutes before the half time whistle. Trede benefitted from excellent work from the forwards and precise handling from Warren Wilby and Connor McBryde. Diss had yet again shown true spirit in responding to an early onslaught, bringing themselves back into the game. In fact, half time arrived following thirty minutes of a wholehearted Diss rear- guard. Diss were still very much in the game at half time.
Walsham certainly responded to their half time talk in a positive manner. Returning to a higher level of precision and accurate handling, the Walsham three quarters began to tear the Diss midfield defence apart. The tackling this week was certainly of a higher standard, there again Walsham possessed a much more competent and technically advanced set of backs than Colchester. Unfortunately tries were conceded at regular intervals thus taking the game well away from the home side. This young Diss team have a great spirit and certainly possess a dogged resilience. Led yet again this week by John Laurie, Matt Richards, Chrids Beaird and Warren Wilby, play was moved from deep within the Diss half, eventually sending Nick Garnham over for a well -deserved consolation try. Two tough weeks against two of the strongest sides in the League has proved demanding, although it has not broken the resolve and spirit of the players and coaches alike.
