Diss started on the front foot and dominated possession from the outset

A third straight win for a Diss side that found Saffron Walden better organised and more cohesive than their two previous opponents. Diss started on the front foot and dominated possession from the outset. However a lack of precision and attention to ball retention allowed Saffron Walden to capitalise, scoring two unanswered tries whilst establishing an early ten point lead.
Diss responded superbly by combining forwards and backs to place themselves in an attacking position from the ten metre line. A rampaging Chris Kent broke through to feed Matt Richards, who not for the first time this season scored from at least 10 meters. Chris Beaird converted to give the home side momentum. The transition from defence to attack was quickly highlighted yet again when superb work from Cutu Serruys sent the ever present Shaun Blythe racing over to bring the Diss faithful to its feet. Beaird converting again.
Saffron Walden missed a very kickable penalty, having placed the home side under extreme pressure with a plethora of possession which the Diss defence absorbed with relative ease. A superb and mesmerising run from George Jones sent Matt Richards charging towards the line from outside the Saffron Walden twenty two. Richards scored setting Beaird up for a third conversion. Saffron Walden are a proud side and refused to accept their fate. A break through the Diss midfield allowed Walden to score their own converted try to bring the score to within four points at the break.
Diss took total command at the restart with Chris Beaird breaking through from well within his own half to score yet another superb individual try. Converted by Beaird to establish a two score lead. Diss dominated possession and at times played with a continuity that will hold them in good stead later in the season. That said, Saffron Walden caught Diss napping at the front of the line out to score a very soft try. Diss also found themselves at the end of the referees whistle for a series of needless infringements at the breakdown eventually culminating in a yellow card for Matt Richards.
As the game entered the final quarter Diss yet again found momentum with Rob Silcocks , Ben McKercher and Ed Passmore all having an influence from the bench. From a series of attacking rucks Ben McKercher jinked free to send Cutu Serruys over for his first try of the afternoon. Chris Beaird, stepping up to send the ball flying between the posts for yet another superb conversion. As the structure of the game broke up a speculative Saffron Walden kick found Shaun Blythe ten metres from his own line. Initially hugging the touch line, Blythe changed direction scything a new course across the field to wrong foot numerous defenders to score a truly outstanding individual try. Beaird stepped up to complete an afternoon of 100% success at the conversion. Saffron Walden rallied to score a final try through their back line. Ultimately, a very satisfactory win that highlights the encouraging progress being made both on and off the field of play.
