Diss returned to Mackenders to thrill the crowd with a convincing 32-3 win over bottom of the league side Sutton & Epsom.

While the team needed the win after 3 losses in succession, it was the manner of the win that pleased the large and vocal crowd.

Yet again coach Gavin Brock was unable to pick from a full strength squad, but was able to welcome back players who were unavailable for last weeks trip to Jersey or back from injury.

Sutton & Epsom had the advantage of the strong wind in the 1st half, but Diss started the better with a good move through the backs that ended in a forward pass. Sutton then were awarded a series of penalties, from which they were able to get 3 points.

Chris Beaird kicked a penalty to even the scores, but both sides were reduced to 14 men following 2 yellow cards. Penalties were then exchanged, with Chris Beaird unluckily hitting the post in the swirling wind. Half time 3-3.

Diss started the 2nd half on the front foot with a good run by Andy Thorpe leading to a Diss penalty for a deliberate knock on near the try line, and Chris Beaird was able to score the 3 points. Greg Gaughan replaced Mike Fuller.

The whole side then began to show their dominance with good work by the pack, and speed and good handling by the backs. Following a long kick by Sutton, Chris Beaird beat the defence and offloaded to Andy Thorpe who scored with his trademark dive into the corner, with the conversion again hitting the post.

Josh Williams replaced Matt Richards, and following good work at the ruck by Deaglan Hall, the box kick from Rhuan Jones was chased into the corner by Andy Thorpe but the ball just beat him into touch.

Diss were by now camped in the Sutton half, and following a panic kick from their winger behind his own line, the ball went straight into the arms of Alex Kelsale, who ran through the defence for a try under the posts, converted by Chris Beaird.

A quick tap from a penalty by Rhuan Jones, led to Andy Thorpe sprinting 50m to score under the posts, again converted. Andy Thorpe was then replaced by Aaron Bliss.

In the last few minutes, a good catch and drive by the pack, led to Will Farrer breaking tackles to score, again converted.

Final score 32-3, and with Diss scoring 4 tries meant that they earned the bonus point that could so vital come the end of the season.

Though all the points were scored by the backs, it was a whole team performance, with the pack becoming more dominant as the match progressed. The style of the win was much appreciated by all the supporters, and sets up the match at Mackenders next week against Old Albanians.

In other matches, the Saracens again lost in the last few minutes going down 19-15 against Sutton and Epsom, who are top the league along with Old Albanians who the Saracens meet next week.

The 3rds won 87-0 away at Lowestoft and Yarmouth, and the 4ths drew 17-17 away at Crusader Medics.
