Diss travelled to Cambridge in the knowledge that they would be facing a Cantabrigian side who had over previous weeks secured victories against the top sides in the League.
Opening the game on the front foot Diss totally dominated affairs and should have scored on at least two separate occasions. Dominating the breakdown with scrum half Alex Leader providing a swift service for the Diss three quarter line who consistently attacked at every opportunity. That said, the Diss front row found themselves under pressure from a very experienced Cantabs unit. Diss continued to display a high level of continuity and opened the scoring when Will Laverne converted a deserved penalty.
As the game entered the second quarter Cantabs begun to exert severe pressure scoring two well taken tries. Diss continued to attack and drive through the home side mid-field but all too often were caught isolated with the ball being turned over. A brave defensive effort from the entire Diss outfit kept Cantabs at bay until halftime with the deficit only being seven points.
Diss yet again started the half on the front foot but failed to convert the pressure created into points. Cantabs did not totally control affairs but at regular intervals scored a further four tries by capitalising on Diss errors and a dominant forward pack. Veteran Chris Kent crashed over deep into the game and Reg Gardner also scored following neat work from Fraser Baron and Will Scott. Haydn Watling yet again impressed from the wing as well as William Wright making his first team debut. Whilst Cantabs fully deserved to win the final score did not truly reflect the effort and determination shown by the visitors.
