Diss sent a positive and compelling warning to the rest of the London Two North East Clubs

Norwich 14 Diss 33

Diss sent a positive and compelling warning to the rest of the London Two North East Clubs . Diss are certainly now the in-form team in the League and will only improve further as the campaign develops. Norwich were competitive throughout this encounter but ultimately no match for a Diss side that scored five outstanding tries, as well as defending with a real desire to close out the current League leaders.

Despite the wet conditions both sides gave early indications that they were willing to play an expansive game . On 10 minutes Diss won quality ruck ball and Jack Peacock was able to break through the Norwich defence and unleash Gus McGrath to score following a 20 metre dash for the line. Diss continued to attack but were completely undone when Norwich intercepted a promising move to score a converted try to lead 7-5 midway through the first half. Norwich now enjoyed a productive period of play and were rewarded with a further excellent converted try, following a concerted drive from their forwards, over the Diss try line. Diss responded almost immediately to this reverse and following a now dominating scrummage, John Laurie broke clear to score wide on the right . Jack Peacock stepped up to convert and place Diss firmly back in the match at 14-12.

Diss were now certainly the side with the bit between their teeth, with Captain, Fraser Hall and the experienced forwards of Tim Groom, Matt Richards and Paul Cayley all beginning to dominate possession . Following a series of off-loads, the Diss three- quarters combined superbly to send Giles West over the try line. Jack Peacock stepped up to convert and give Diss a deserved half time lead of 14-19.

From the outset of the second half Norwich took the game to Diss at every opportunity and following a series of close 5 metre attacks should have scored but dogged Diss defence and ultimately a lack of composure cost Norwich dearly. Diss were reduced to fourteen men following a sin binning and the game was left in the balance. The Diss forwards responded superbly to being one man down by driving close to a series of rucks , that enabled scrum half Jamie Burroughs the opportunity to boss the game from the break down.

On 55 minutes, Warren Wilby broke through the Norwich midfield to score under the posts, giving Jack Peacock the opportunity to convert the try and increase the Diss lead to 14-26. Norwich gamely took play into the Diss half but on 79 minutes, the Diss backs attacked again from half way and released Giles West into the Norwich twenty two. Although tap tackled , West recovered to score and seal a most emphatic victory for this ever improving Diss outfit.
