With a number of players returning to the squad a strong looking Saracens team took 20 minutes to gel and after a number of missed chances scored their first try through Oli Taylor finishing a flowing move, Seb Goodge converting. A far stronger scrum, with the returning John Hutchinson, Richard Horne and Dan Hilling, stopped Holt’s main attacking option and led to the next try with Number 8 Luke Bailey celebrating his 18th birthday by bursting through a splintered Holt pack to touch down.
The second half showed the greater skill of the Saracens with Bailey going on a barnstorming run and feeding debutant winger Stu Awcock for another try, Goodge converting. Sustained pressure saw the lively Taylor score his second and John Bergin eventually squeeze over for a try, Goodge converting. Full back Alan Goymour, having his best game of the season, scored a well taken solo try which Goodge again converted. Holt’s try towards the end of the game was merely consolation in an entertaining match that defied the conditions.
