After an extended summer conditioning programme a number of last year’s successful Saracen’s squad returned for their first game of the season, this alongside a guest appearance from former first team regular Chris Aldous made for a much stronger team than previous weeks.
The game was played in good spirit but ultimately, as the score line suggests, West Norfolk were out played all round the park. New number 8 Josh Monks and flankers Ollie Taylor and Nick Garnham were at the heart of much of the good work while centres James Nichols and Raymond Knapp broke through at regular intervals.
The handling skill and support work of the Saracens was impressive and led to 9 tries being scored in total. One was a 95 metre team effort from a quick lineout while another saw most of the backline help the forwards drive the ball over the line. The try scorers were Knapp 2, Richard Horne, Ben Colt, Nichols 2, Coomber, Aldous and Taylor while Seb Goodge converted 6.
An impressive performance from the Saracens who will look forward to their encounter next week with semi-professional outfit Lowestoft and Yarmouth.
