This was the classic game of two halves and it was also a game of two contrasting styles as Diss beat Broadland in an enjoyable encounter.

The first half ended five all, one unconverted try each. But in the second half Diss cut loose scoring six further tries to Broadland's one.

Broadland had the heavier forwards and looked to play a more direct game. Thankfully Diss had veteran prop Sooty Smith in at tighthead who absorbed much of their pressure. In contrast Diss had pace to burn in their backline through Stan MacQueen, Giles van der West, Chev Trede and ex Welsh schools international Lembit Coombs. Diss looked to put width on the ball whenever they could although that was sometimes difficult given a very strong cross field wind.

The first half was very even with the hosts scoring firsts using their heavier forwards to good effect. Skipper Will Foote was pressed into action in the line-out where he leapt like a salmon and provided a stream of quality possession for Diss' dangerous backs. Diss responded with a try scored from deep as Lembit Coombs showed pace and great side step.

Diss started the second half in electric mood and scored a try from Broadland's restart through the flying Stan MacQueen. Then Diss delivered a second sucker punch as they did exactly the same again from the subsequent restart, this time it was Giles van der West who scored. This rallied Diss and although Broadland pulled one try back Diss were now in the ascendancy and even the sin binning of the ill disciplined Dale Gooderham could not halt Diss. Four further Diss tries followed at regular intervals through Dale Gooderham, James O'Farrell, Lembit Coombs and Stan MacQueen. William Edwards kicked four conversions while in the back row Diss' oldest and youngest players, Richard Bloomfield and Vic Garnham, had strong games.
