Diss Saracens extended their unbeaten run to 16 games without ever really hitting top gear in this local derby.

Diss were the better side and deserved the win but while they controlled large sections of the game they never cut loose. Credit to Beccles who were worthy opposition and took to the pitch like a cats on a hot tin roof.

The Diss scrum was dominant with props Daz Teare and Brendan Oycie to the fore. There was some good ball carrying from forwards Adam "Mad Dog" Rodgers, skipper Will Foote and Paul Cayley whose recent retirement from rugby lasted a full 6 weeks. The Diss back line offered variety whether it was the direct running of the ample framed centres Adam Williamson and Gray Knapp or the silkier running of wingers Chev Trede and Kurt Winslett. Scrum half Dougs van Moirs also gave a nuggety performance.

The conditions were perfect for rugby and a large, vociferous crowd enjoyed a relatively entertaining game at Mackenders. Diss scored three tries and a penalty in the first half while Beccles failed to get on the scoreboard. Youngster Vic Garnham was the first to score, smuggling the ball over the line after good work by Adam Rodgers at the tail of the line-out. Chev Trede scored the second, outstripping the Beccles defence as he got the ball in space on the wing. Then there was a very popular score as Will Foote got Diss' third after the Diss scrum drove the Beccles pack over their own line. Despite having a scruffy afternoon with the boot, double veteran Sebastian Goodge converted all three tries and kicked a penalty.

Diss were the first to score in the second half, Chev Trede gathering a delightful chip kick to the corner by Adam Williamson. Sebastian Goodge again converted. Diss showed some more good touches as Zane Seaman joined the fray. However Diss couldn't kill the game off and it was Beccles who scored the last points of the game with an unconverted try.
