Diss Saracens beat near neighbours Ipswich to stay top of the Guinness Merit Table but had to work very hard against a good Ipswich team.

Indeed the scoreline flattered Diss who scored two break away tries in the first half, both by the flying Chev Trede, both starting from inside his own half and not for the first time this season. But in tight games like this it's all about taking your chances and that is just what Diss did. Charlie Pask, the 17 year old son of former club stalwart Dave, kicked five out of five shots at goal as well as crossing the line late on from a well worked move to seal the game. His skills and confidence belied his tender years, he won man of the match and has a very bright future.

However Charlie Pask was not the only youngster to put his hand up. Andrew Langham-Service did well playing out of position at tighthead against a very heavy Ipswich front five. Ethan Page grew in confidence during the game using his bulk to increasing effect. And flankers Vic Garnham and Adam Rodgers were dogged in defence and attack against some direct running from Ipswich's lumpy forwards.

Diss' advantage lay in their backs and the challenge for the Diss pack was to provide a platform and possession for their backs. The Diss pack had to work hard though as the Ipswich eight was much heavier, contained a few first teamers and were very committed. The game started with Ipswich on the front foot and with Diss defending their half. On one such attack Ipswich spilled the ball and Chev Trede hacked on to score his first. Ipswich came back and again Trede broke out to score, this time with the ball in hand. Ipswich got a deserved converted try before the break making it 14-7 at half time.

Diss had the slight wind advantage in the second half and probably the edge in terms of fitness too. More of the play was in the Ipswich half and Charlie Pask kicked two penalties to give Diss a 13 point cushion. Ipswich kept coming and Diss' defence continued to be tested with Lembit Williams and Will Hemment to the fore. And then came Charlie Pask's try 10 minutes from time to seal the win for Diss.
