Diss Saracens 29 : 10 Haverhill

Captain, veteran William Foote, urged the need for discipline and from the outset the Saracens were prepared to run everything and eventually Adam Williamson used his bulk to crash over. Haverhill, although struggling for possession, made the most of any Diss mistakes and managed a well taken try in reply. Back came Diss and more great handling saw Fergus O’farrell score in the corner. The Diss forwards had the edge in the scrum, new prop Mike Hutchinson making a solid debut and were stealing lots of opposition lineouts through Mat Cannon. Centre Raymond Knapp had his best match of the season constantly carrying the ball over the gain line and after yet another run an inch perfect grubber kick from Seb Goodge was picked up by the flying Lembit Coombes to score in the corner, Goodge superbly converting from the touchline, 17-5 at half time.

With the wind behind them Diss played more of a kicking game in the second half and with youngsters Vic Garnham and Eddy Page heavily involved, a clever change of direction from Goodge linked with Alan Goymer who managed to hold onto the ball and score in the corner. A number of needless penalties and then a yellow card for Foote saw Haverhill scoring another good breakaway try. More Diss pressure led to Paul Cayley crashing over the line from a 5 yard scrum with Goodge converting. The win confirmed the League title for the Saracens with Captain Foote being allowed back onto the pitch to lift the trophy.
