Harrison Cup

With no William Foote involved an experimental Diss XV only had an average age of 22. Lack of familiarity saw them being 21-0 down after 20 minutes play against an experienced Holt team enjoying another successful season. However the team started to gel and responded with tries from number 8 Brian Colborn, the strong running centre Morne Gardener and the fleet footed Chev Trede with youngster Charlie Pask converting one to bring it back to 24-17 at half time.

The Holt team relied very much on the extra bulk and experience of their forward pack while every time the Diss backs got the ball they carved their Holt counterparts apart. The second half saw more of the running skills of the flying Stan Mcqueen and the improving Ted Wishart on the wings while Wayne Wilby was a constant thorn in the side of the Holt team. The young Diss forward pack will have learnt much from their afternoon but conceded another push over try in the second half. Diss then scored the try of the afternoon, untidy lineout possession came back to stand in scrum half Seb Goodge whose exquisite reverse pass, much admired by watching England scrum half Ben Youngs, unleashed the backline with Charlie Pask ghosting through two defenders and proceeded to sidestep half the Holt team to score under the posts. Pask was the victim of a knee drop in the process of scoring and had to leave the pitch with sore ribs, Goodge converting the try. Back came the Holt forwards for another try before a sweeping move by the Diss backs resulted in Giles Van Der West scoring under the posts with Goodge converting. Diss tried to regain possession for the winning score but were again unable to prise the ball away from the Holt forwards to see out the game.
