Diss Saracens made a slow start to this final match of the season but the difference between the two teams soon became apparent.

Diss played better as a team showing good handling skills time and again in the conditions. The forwards impetus and the backs skill worked an overlap for James O’Farrel to score. Seb Goodge scored a second under the posts which he also converted.

At the start of the second half, Thetford seemed camped on the Diss line but after a number of 5 metre scrums they failed to take the advantage. Diss worked hard and Adam Goymour scored in the corner. Thetford played their part in an entertaining encounter and a well taken penalty got them on the board. Diss were strong in the scrum allowing Macqueen to run for a try, Goodge converting. With time running out Diss added another try to comfortably take the game.

Will Foote accepted the Tail End Cup to add to the Guinness Merit Table Trophy to cap a fine season for the Saracens, thanks should go to Foote for all his organisational work this season as well as his assistant Mick Prior.

Report by Seb Goodge

Alternate report:

With captain William Footes Churchillian quotes still ringing in their ears the Saracens made a slow start to this final match of the season.

But the difference between the two teams soon became apparent, while Thetford relied on the individual ability of their players notably their full back and right wing, Diss played better as a team showing good handling skills time and again in the conditions. The robust Kiefer O’Rix gave the forwards impetus and the backs showed great skill to work an overlap for Fergus O’Farrell to score, Seb Goodge converting. Raymond Knapp probed with Alan Goymour and the forwards Eddy Page and Vic Garnham took it on, quick ball was spun out by Dwayne Moir to the clubs all-time leading try scorer Seb Goodge to power under the posts for the second try which he duly converted.

A mix up at the start of the second half saw Thetford camped on the Diss line but after a number of 5 metre scrums they ran out of ideas and Diss were able to clear their lines. More great interplay by the Blues between Knapp, Goymour and Chev Trede resulted in Goymour just scoring in the corner. Thetford played their part in an entertaining encounter and a well taken penalty got them on the board. However back came Diss and after another solid scrum from young tyro’s Dai Rackham and George Andhi the ball came out to the backs and the impressive Stan Macqueen ran the try in, Goodge converting. With time running out back rower Mike Adogg took a quick tap and ran deep into the Thetford half young prop George Andhi took the pass and ran in a popular try showing the benefits of training throughout the season.

An emotional William Foote accepted the cup to add to the Guiness Merit table trophy to cap a fine season for the Saracens, thanks should go to Foote for all his organisational work this season as well as his assistant Mick Prior.
