Diss 2XV 55:6 Wymondham 2XV

The Saracens started the new year with their first game in 6 weeks owing to the festive break combined with various cancellations and postponed games. Thus, it wasn't overly surprising they came out a little rusty and unfit! Wymondham capitalised on an early Diss offside penalty to put 3 points on the board after just 2 minutes. This served as an early wake up for the home side and they started to up the intensity of their game, but Wymondham defended tirelessly, and were awarded for their efforts after 20 minutes with a penalty for an infringement at the ruck by the Saracens. The kick was was narrowly missed, and just 5 minutes later it was Diss' turn, and Adam Goymour made short work of the opportunity to get the scores level. Wymondham fought back into the Diss 22 when the home side reclaimed the ball from a line out when Patrick Lawton kicked to gain territory, but Instead found Neville Hemmants face, who left the field shortly afterwards looking a little more dazed than normal! diss attacked hard and after a series of hands Henry Passmore found himself crossing the line for the first try of the game 5 minutes before halftime. Goymour converted. From the restart Stefan Coombes gathered up the ball and battled back down field, and following a series of passes from one side of the field to the other and back, Jon Trede made use of the over lap to run another try in from the wing to score behind the posts. Goymour again converting. Saracens captain Ben Walker caught the restart to initiate the next Diss surge, which saw a driving maul carrying the ball up into the Wymondham 22 where Jon Trede dummied a pass to break through and run in his second try for the final play of the half. Goymour narrowly missing the conversion.

The second half started In a similar fashion to the first, with Wymondham awarded a penalty for Diss being offside, which they duly converted into 3 points to bring the score to 22-6. After 5 minutes the in-form Trede made break with Jake Girdler and Pat Lawton, and a series of interchanges saw Lawton cross the line, with Goymour just missing the conversion conversion making 27-6. After a further 5 minutes it was the turn of Replacement number 8 Xavier Valentine to break the defensive line and put Lawton over for his second, with Goymour once again converting. With
Trede moving to scrum half when Hemmant left the field, he was finding himself with a lot of ball in hand, and the next score came from him breaking from the base of the scrum with Girdler and Lawton In support, Girdler this time crossing the line. Wymondham's defensive efforts didn't drop, and the game came to a period of stalemate, with neither team really breaking through, until a well executed line out saw the Diss back line break through, when the ball came loose, where upon Pete 'the wrecking ball' Bray chipped it through and gathered it himself to charge on down field, until he lost balance and fell forward making a textbook off load, to start a series of interchanges involving most of the Saracens, which saw Goymour cross the line and then convert his own score, leaving the final tally at 55:6. A valiant start to 2016 for the Saracens, but not necessarily reflective of the 80 minutes of hard graft put in by The visiting side.
