Diss Saracens first league fixture of the season was a home game against a strong opposition. Adam Goymour - Saracens Captain for the 2016/2017 season. Has tasked the Saracens squad for this seasons campaign to win the league, as we did in 2014/2015, but unfortunately failing on the qualifying promotion. But first we needed to start by ensuring we start with a win. This was set out to be a good first test after only having one pre season friendly against Wymondham which Diss won the previous week.
Fakenham turned up with 14, with their 15th player turning up 5 mins into the game. Diss had a strong side and a full squad of 18 to start the game and Diss failed to capitalise and gain from the extra man for the first 5 mins as they settled into the first league game of the season.
Strong exchanges of physical ball carries from the Horne brothers, Nick Garnham and Zac Seward were met from Diss forwards and Flyhalf in the early exchanges. But a lot of the ball was being played in the Diss half. Fakenham's Flyhalf was trying the chip over the backs defensive line continually throughout the game, but was soon stopped after the opposition Flyhalf received a few heavy collisions and tackles.
After half way through the first half, Zac Seward grubbered the ball through and touched down underneath the posts. Adam Goymour converted. With the game not having much flow, Diss started to get penalised often whereby Fakenham took an attempt to get on the board 35 mins in but the kick was missed from Fakenhams Flyhalf. Shortly after this from the 22 drop out Fakenham crashed over the line with Fakenhams hooker scoring with his shorts at his ankles.
The 2nd half didn't start well with Diss not catching the kick off, that said Diss started to build with their backs play and gain a few yards. Jacob Page came off the bench as did Jay Z Kindleysides and gave Diss fresh legs in the forwards and at scrum half. Jay the young whipper snapper providing quick ball out to Zac who midway through the 2nd half handed off 5 players again to score under the posts, which Adam Goymour again converted. At 65 mins in, diss had a good chance to score but unfortunately Michael Jones dropped it on the line. Diss carried on in the midfield and Zac offloaded to Goymour who made a good few yards before spinning out to Tiger Shaw who got tackled short of the line. At this point the game came to a close as the ref got caught in a collision between Diss's no.9 and Fakenhams players and got knocked out 66 mins in. Whereby the game was then drawn to a holt and the game stands as 60 mins played - Diss winning 14-7.
