Diss remain top of the league after three successive wins.

Diss Saracens played their second home game of the season, against a battling Norwich Lions team, who came to Mackenders with a win under their belt from the previous week against second place North Walsham. Which meant it was going to be a good game of rugby played.

From the kick off the Saracens started with physical intent & straight away with some good forwards play. Within two minutes, Andrew Horne crashed over in the corner after a series of forwards play. Adam Goymour converted the kick from out wide.

Diss were struggling in the scrums to start and with a lot of ball moving out wide, this opened up the gaps in the defence from both sides. Which cost Diss an early lead, as from a quick tap in Diss’s 22, Norwich scored under the posts with some quick thinking from their backs, which was converted in front of the posts. There were some impressive ball carrying from Diss Forwards, in particular Richard Horne, Michael Jones and Ed Curtis. Jake Girdler was proving to be effective in open play. From this, Richard Horne after a tail end of carries carried went over the line to score a good forwards try touching down halfway into the first half, Adam Goymour was unsuccessful with the conversion, with it hitting the cross bar.

Diss were struggling to get some continuity with the game so open. Norwich were proving effective in open play as were Diss but both defence lines in the backs of both teams were struggling to retain a good day. After an open break from Fullback Adam Goymour and storming run from Michael Jones, Adam Goymour offloaded to Fred Precious who finished well in the corner. The conversion missed.

The score at half-time 17-7. After the break, Diss had to close the game out, which started off well with Adam Williamson carrying strong to beat two defenders to cross the line following some more forward moves. Adam Goymour convereted. The score now 24-7, Diss were seeming to make good plays. With Nick Garnham and Jay Z Kindleysides off the bench, this added some pace to the game but for mid-way through half-time there was still lacking composure, as Norwich Lions scored their second try of the game which again was conerted making the score now 24-14. But Diss continued to battle on and with some impressive link play between the forwards and backs of Diss Saracens, Ben Walker crashed over the line to close out the game which Adam Goymour conerted.

A really positive game, seeing the team start to gel together and with a game against West Norfolk away next week and still being early in the season. The importance of winning the next game to keep Diss on top and create a gap from the other teams in the league is important. To make it 4 wins from 4.
