Diss travelled to Great Yarmouth and Broadland off the back of a strong victory over Norwich Medics, knowing they would need another excellent team performance to see off one of the leagues first teams. The opening exchanges were scrappy, with Diss dominating the scrums but failing to capitalize on the resulting possession, too often kicking it away for little result. The first score for Diss settled the away side down and they imposed themselves on the game, with strong running from the forwards and centres Adam Williamson and Tom Miller. Mid way through the half, good work at the back of the scrum from Andy Horne allowed Will Hemmant to release Liam Brown who capitalized on plenty of space down the blindside to score Diss’s second try. A further try brought the score to 19-0 but the end of the first half belonged to Great Yarmouth and Broadland, with a sustained period of pressure in Diss’s 22. Despite excellent defensive work a penalty was conceded and the score at half time was 19-3 to Diss.
Diss knew the first score after half time was crucial to crushing Great Yarmouth and Broadland’s hopes of getting back in the game. Their fourth try came within the first five minutes of the half, with Andy Horne touching day following another rumbling scrum by the forwards, driving Broadland over their own line from five metres out. Diss added three further tries in the second half, with the game opening up, allowing surging runs from Adam Goymour, Adam Williamson and Karlton Gray. The final ten minutes slightly lacked in quality as both sides began to tire from a physical encounter, the final score was 41-3 with tries from Andy Horne (2), Angus Williams (2), Nick Garnham, Liam Brown and Henry Passmore with Adam Goymour adding three conversions. A convincing win which puts the Saracens top of the table and they welcome Norwich Union to Mackenders on Saturday.
