Diss Saracens 41 : 12 Wyhomdham 2s - 17th December 2016

Diss Saracens finished 2016 with a hard fought bonus point victory against a spirited Wymondham who defied their league position.

After 3 weeks without a game the Saracens returned to league action and eager to finish the year with a win which would consolidate their position at the top of the league. Diss started strongly & scored 2 early tries through the impressive Matt Trede and Jordan Dunelm. Wymondham rallied and after a strong break by their fly half, their scrum half darted over to score under the posts which was converted to bring the score to 10-7. That was Wymondhams last foray in to the Diss 22 and spent much of the next hour defending Diss pressure, most of the time defending strongly & forcing the Saracens in to many mistakes. On too many occasions Diss also fell foul of the officials whistle and struggled to gain continuous momentum. However, a further try was scored by the ever reliable back row forward Vic Garnham making the score 15-7 at half time.

The second half saw Diss once again probe at Wymondhams impressive defence and although the second period won't be remembered for flowing rugby, Diss were dangerous when they managed to play more of an expansive game. Trede at full back was a constant danger and scored 2 further tries to bag a hat trick. From a solid set piece Ed Colbourn at 13 sliced through the heart of Wymondham to score under the posts & Horney Andrew capped a strong performance at No 8 by scoring a well deserved try. After all conversion attempts were missed in the first half fly half Williamson finally managed to wrestle kicking duties from usual kicker and captain Goymore to slot all 4 second half attempts. From another conceded penalty a quick tap enabled to Wymondham to catch Diss off guard and score a well worked try out wide which was the final play of the game. The game was played in good spirit & finished 41-12 to the league leaders.

Saracens will look back on the first half of the season pleased with their efforts but know that performances in the new year will need to improve if they are to hold on to their position at the league summit.
