Diss Saracens push on for top of the league

Diss Saracens played Broadland and Gt.Yarmouth at Mackenders on what was a glorious afternoon to play fast running rugby. Diss Saracens had what was their best squad available and team out that afternoon all season and Diss Saracens certainly demonstrated their skill and dominance more so than in recent fixtures. Diss scored a total of 6 tries to gain a 4 point win, against Broadland’s 2 tries which was vital and could prove vital as there are only 3 remaining league fixtures against Norwich Union, Dereham and Fakenham to finish the season. With Diss Saracens trailing Fakenham at the top only on point difference now, but with Fakenham a game in hand.

Diss Saracens had Fred Precious, Will Scott, Matt Trede, Tim Groom from Diss’s first team as well as a call-up of Luke Burridge from Diss’s Youth Section in the Colts at Flyhalf who proved to be Diss’s main playmaker in the game who performed with great exuberance and determination to break the gain line all afternoon.

Diss started off the game strongly with Broadland kicking off to Diss and within 5 minutes, Adam Goymour broke through from a terrific pass off Tiger Shaw playing at scrumhalf to release Matt Trede in the final 15 to score, with Adam Goymour converting. Godfrey Vivienne Bancott refereeing the game all afternoon, allowed great running rugby and penalised at any infringement in the ruck or offside so still instilled management of the game whilst allowing a good competitive game of rugby. With a new 2nd row partnership of Matt Cullum and Ben Walker along with a great front row, Diss forwards had great dominance in the scrum and for the majority of line-outs all afternoon, which proved so effective with Broadland who were disruptive but not too much with the flanker partnership of Nick Garnham and Joe Kindleysides who stole ball and tackled well all afternoon and with Tim Groom, Peter Bray and Andy Mcalister providing a brute force with their ball carries.

Other try scorers of the afternoon included Matt Trede with a further try, Luke Burridge (2), Fred Precious (1) and Peter Bray (1). All but one converted by Diss Saracens Captain, Adam Goymour at Full back. Final score 40-12.

Diss Saracens next week travel away to North Walsham in the Norfolk Bowl Cup for a 2:15pm Kick Off, followed by two weeks of league fixtures, a week off and then the final fixture against current league leaders Fakenham 1’s on Saturday 25th March away.
