Diss began brightly and soon had Ipswich under some pressure. However the first to score was Ipswich who won a lineout in the Diss 22 metre line and powered over for their first try. Diss came back almost immediately through good work by Naz Gurgin at scrum half and with the blitz defence working well Diss rushed up on Ipswich and with Benny Goodman putting in a big hit on the oppositions fly-half who passed the ball loosely for James O ‘ Farrel to intercept a pass and score under the posts. The game was flowing backwards and forwards with both teams attacking vigorously but it was Ipswich who scored next with another forward based try. Diss finished the half well with Charlie Oakes making a few strong runs followed by Baz Teare who also made a nuisance of himself. The Garnham brothers Nick and Mike also put in strong runs and with the Ipswich line under pressure Diss were awarded a penalty which was converted to finish the half 10-10.
The second half was more one sided as Diss got stronger as the big pack of Ipswich got tired. Winger Ben Holdsworth scored a dramatic try which started in his own half and this was followed by another for James O’Farrel who broke through at centre. Ipswich came back into the game again and scored another forward based try which Diss struggled to defend which kept them in touch with Diss. Replacement centre Ali Thomas got in on the act with a try out wide which resulted with him coming off injured. Diss added one more try to give themselves a healthy lead but for the last 15 minutes 2 players from Diss got sin binned for repeated penalties when the ball was on the floor. This gave Ipswich the opportunity to come back into the game by scoring two late tries to give the score a more closer look than it deserved.
