DISS 3RDS 5 SOUTHWOLD 2NDS 17
Diss 3rds began their season taking on local coastal side Southwold 2nds in a pre season friendly. The team had a familiar look to if with skipper Benny Goodman still leading the side and Will Foote return to the back row after a injury ravaged season last year.
Diss began on the front foot and after 5 minutes with some good work from Bergin and Jack Owen, Diss found themselves on the 5 metre line after a Southwold penalty gave Seb Goodge the chance to kick in the corner. Charlie Oakes at Hooker found the jumper in the line out and William Appleton went over for a pushover try.
Southwold came back into the game with some fast work in their backs and scored a try out wide with Diss struggling to adapt to the pace of the game. Missed tackles in the backs helped Southwold score another try out wide with Diss struggling to make tackles out wide.
The game was a much needed trial match before the league season kicks off next week and several changes were made at half time. Southwold scored another try through their hard work in the forwards as the Diss made more changes through the second half and the game finished with Diss pouring forward for a consolation try but it never came.
Next week Diss travel to Wisbech to take on their 2nd team in their first fixture in Eastern Counties 3.
