Thurston Rangers 12 : 7 Diss 3rds - 4th October 2014

With the fixture switched to an away game, the day before the game, this created a shuffling around of the Diss side but still Diss travelled again for the 3rd time in four weeks to the nearby village of Thurston.

The game started in the pouring rain but Diss began the better side with various attacks in the first half which only resulted in a missed penalty opputunity. Will Foote playing number eight made various runs and Seb Goodge played a pivotal role in ensuring Thurston mainly played the half on the back foot. Angus Williams out wide and Fergus Newman had an opputunity to score for Diss but a knock on close to the Thurston line cost Diss. The only try scoring opportunity Thurston had they took when a period of Thurston pressure broke through the Diss defence to score close to the posts.

The second half continued in the pouring rain but the game remained scrappy. Seb Goodge at fly-half scored a try early on and converted to bring Diss back into the game but errors by various players at key times ensured any pressure on the Thurston line was wasted, even though Mike Jones and Chris Smith came close to scoring. Midway through the first half Thurston who had made several changes broke through out wide and another mistake led to Thurston scoring out wide. Diss continued to attack, the ever feisty Tom Miller made several good runs and Benny Goodman at centre barrelled his way through on occasions but Thurston to their credit defended well. The much anticipated return of the University of East Anglia students to Diss this weekend will ensure another close game no doubt.
