Diss took to their travels heading over to pastures new and encountered a team that required players and Diss duly obliged. Diss never let Newmarket settle and began a 11 try festival of rugby with tries coming from front row , second row and amongst the backline. The side had a familiar look to it, Baz Teare returning from a rotation policy and Karlton Gray returning after a fortnight sabbatical involving work and family duties. Jordan Harris returned on the wing and Ed Colborn played his first game for the 3rds this season. More importantly skipper Benny Goodman passed a rigorous fitness test set by scrum half Seb Goodge and was deemed fit enough to play that afternoon. One major change was Naz Laidlaw Gurgin moving from his normal scrum half position to fly half. After the first twenty minutes where the game was a stalemate Diss began to put phases of play together and the tries began to flow. John Alexander playing second row crashed over to start proceedings and after Diss began to suck the opposition into the centre of play more space was made for the Diss backs. Jordan Harris scored the first of his three tries out wide after a mazy run followed by a rampaging try by prop Karlton Gray who managed to crash over from outside the 22. Diss had the upper hand and the slope and managed more tries, Benny Goodman went over for one of the easiest tries of the 100 plus he has scored for the club but the highlight of the afternoon was a push over try from Robert Spinks who guided the entire Diss pack over the line to score his first try of the season. With Naz Gurgin added the conversions the half finished with Diss leading by a mammoth amount. Newmarket had periods of play and managed to score a try through a Diss mistake but the gap was too large to counter attack. More tries followed in the second half, Jordan Harris added to more , Naz Gurgin got himself on the score sheet by a magical fainted movement where he went one way and the Newmarket winger went the other and a try was scored out wide. John Alexander made it two tries for the day and James Clarke rounded off the day scoring two tries himself, in between the ninth and tenth try Newmarket scored another try for their efforts. Thanks were made to several Diss players who played for opposition to get the game up and running in the first place and a good afternoon was had by all when the spirit of rugby shone through. Diss will encounter more challenging days ahead but that is for another day.
