After a team meeting at the Oaksmere on Friday night involving the entire matchday squad Diss 3 played only their second home game of the season and all the good work put in on their travels this season came together. Diss were on top straight from the kick off and didn’t let up as they racked up their biggest win of the season. Lowestoft must be commended for bringing a youthful side and managed to get three teams out themselves at the weekend which is an achievement in itself. Diss were strong in the scrum with Charlie Oakes being effective not only in the kick offs but the lineout worked well with Gareth Watts and Nick Yager winning lots of opposition ball. Diss scored early in the game through good work by Jay Sides at scrum half and Toby Boom playing fly-half, a teenage combination, combined to set up Warwick Bowen who formed an over forty’s centre combination with skipper Benny Goodman. Diss continued to pile on the pressure and scored 5 more tries in the half, Jordan Harris went over for a try after more good work by Mike Jones at number eight, Stuart Popplewell went over from close range after good lineout work by Jo Sides, Ben Brooks went close to scoring but set up the play for Jay Sides to score one of his three tries. At halftime the game was in the bag and a bonus point secured. Diss continued to dominate, and further tries were scored by Jordan Harris who was a thorn in ever body’s side, James Wilby played his first game in five weeks and set up a try out wide. Fred Precious who had several good ideas at the team meeting on Friday night managed to boss the back row into setting him up for his first try for the club. Captain Benny Goodman carrying various injuries made a break through the centre and set up another Jay Sides try. Welshman Owen Atkinson came on to calm ever body down and as Mark Dungar returned to the field to replace the superb Pete Bray, who had earlier scored himself, Yarmouth had their best period of play as they continued to attack but to no evail. Diss continue on their travels next weekend with a trip next week to play Swaffham’s second string.
