Diss 3rds got back to winning ways by beating Swaffham who sat just out of the relegation spots in the league

Diss 3rds got back to winning ways by beating Swaffham who sat just out of the relegation spots in the league and travelled with a strong side for a team so low. Diss welcomed back their captain Benny Goodman, who was away on six nations duty in Paris, and with James Winterbottom added to the squad late and the experience of Seb Goodge and former first team full back Pete Tomson the team wasn't short of experience. The team took the field with the normal look, Gareth Watts and Nick Yager in the engine room and Jack Owen leading the pack from blindside flanker. It was Owen who scored first when the ball fell loose at the back of a maul and he reacted first and picked up the ball to score from twenty yards out. Soon after Diss kept up the momentum by winning a penalty which Goodge converted. Soon after a break by Stephen Macqueen put James Hayhoe into space who found Benny Goodman who ran a line and found Hayhoe again who set up the ever improving Fred Precious to score. Swaffham threw everything at Diss but the lineouts were strong with Watts and Yager disrupting the opposition ball and the scrums were strong with good scrummaging by David Rackham and Will Appleton. The second half began with Winterbottom replacing the ageing Will Foote and Diss soon found themselves in the five metre line but managed to miss an opportunity to score. Swaffham came into the game and scored two quick tries of their own by a missed tackle in the centre and a break from the back of the scrum on Diss’s five metre line. Xavier Valentine, playing number eight kept Swaffham on the back foot and with fifteen minutes to go, and with Diss under pressure in their twenty two, Goodman broke away down the left flank and found hooker Charlie Oakes to his left, Oakes passed the ball back and Goodman went in for his fifth try of the season. Swaffham continued to attack but Diss held out, James Winterbottom made a nuisance of himself in the loose play and even though Swaffham still attacked Diss managed to defend and the game ended in a fitting way as skipper Benny Goodman put the ball into touch for a deserved win.
