Adnams Prosecco Man of The Match Shaun Blyth

John Alexander finds form and fitness ahead of busy November and December period.

Diss romped to a seven-try win at Belrope Lane Saturday, Shaun Blyth scoring four and Chris Trede two, but for all their fireworks out in the back line it was Alexander who was the standout performer in a victory that ignites the team's league campaign. For the first hour Steve Macqueen was conducting proceedings, Blyth at his slippery best and Alexander a battering ram who made over 200 metres for his nine carries. Straight from kick off Diss turned it on. The first try began in Diss's half with Alexander bullocking into anyone willing to stand in his way. The ball was worked wide to the left after a scruffy kick through that didn't get cleared and Trede gathered and scored his fourth try of the season. This was met with a nod of approval from Captain Benny Goodman who was sitting out the match with a torn bicep injury. Alexander's next line break set up the second score for Shaun Blyth, finished with a dummy by the new Diss centre, and No3 soon followed when Trede slipped past his opposite number out wide with ease. Already Wymondham were done for and it is a measure of how lackluster they were that Diss had their try bonus point before half-time - another smart finish from Blyth. Perhaps this was the Diss thirds new all-star backline clicking into top gear for the first time but Wymondham 2s lack of interest in defending was palpable. Another name to mention in an entertaining first half was full back Naz Girgin who was at his jinking best in a perfect display of full back play. Wymondham managed to get on the score sheet for themselves with a couple of penalties in the half but this was to be there only time they added to their tally in the first half. Diss finished the half with another try to lead 33-6 at half time when another barreling run from Jason Winterbottom set up the bruised Alexander to score to finish the scoring off for the half. Welshman Owen Atkinson came on at half time to help the already superb line outs from Robert Spinks who is playing himself into being first choice hooker and Jack Owen played his compulsory half game as Diss manage his knee injury through the busy period. The second half got underway and Shaun Blyth again streaking under the posts for his hat trick try a couple of minutes into the second half and again had his fourth when finishing off a move started with Macqueen's dart up the middle and delightful long pass to Trede who passed for the centre to score. Even with Wymondham registering their first try - a close-range finish from their number 9 - and a yellow card to Girgin for bringing down a maul wasn't enough to bring Wymondham back into the game. Diss continued to push for more points and changes were made with Pete Lemon coming off after a delightful game at tight head for the last change of the game. Diss finished eventual winners 47-11 and deserve the rest for the upcoming weekend when they pass their attention onto watching the first team play at Belrope Lane v Saffron Waldon.
