After no shows and player call offs Diss still managed to take the field with a settled team

After no shows and player call offs Diss still managed to take the field with a settled team at Lakenham Hewitt and came away with their biggest victory in the league. Captain Benny Goodman returned to his familiar position at outside centre and Eddie Bullock returned to the side after passing the concussion protocols in the new year. Jack Owen returned to the back row from Hooker and Paul Cayley had an opportunity at playing at number eight.

Diss began lively and straight away decided to use the space and pace out wide and with only minutes on the clock Thomas Webster had run through for his first try of the day and quickly followed by Naz Girgins first try of the day to give Diss a two try lead after ten minutes. Lakenham Hewitt got the opportunity to pressure Diss with various attacks but the Diss defence was solid. Diss again from their own twenty two broke again out wide in space as Steve Macqueen scored what was his first of three tries.

Soon after the game and the bonus point was wrapped up by Eddie Bullock who scored under the posts after an initial break by Karlton Gray made the yards to make the try possible. At the end of the half the forwards got the opportunity to get themselves on the score sheet with a dazzling push over try by Paul Cayley who by his standards had a quiet game but did the basics well and soon after the referee blew for half time.

The second half followed the first with Lakenham Hewitt having various attacks which were cut down or cleared by Diss. The scrums were strong with a front row of Fred Cornish, Dan Goodson and Gray working hard and Jack Hill and Jack Owen tackling well into double figures. When the opportunity came Diss scored tries when they made space and had the territory. Tries were scored in the half by Girgin, Ben Brooks got his scoring boots back on by bagging two tries himself, Thomas Webster added a second try, Macqueen completed a hat trick and Karlton Gray added his usual try a game.

The score line was looking so heavy captain Goodman attempted a drop goal from outside the twenty two when an overlap was probably the better choice but made amends by setting up a rampaging welsh Owen Atkinson to score to complete the scoring and the final score of 79-0. Diss move onto the coastal visit to Broadland next week with selection again the major talking point as players being unavailable against players returning to the squad.
