Diss played their first home league game of the season and struggled against a well organised Wymondham side. The side was still being organised 15 minutes before kick-off due to call ups to the 2nd team and this caused much reorganising to the back line of the thirds. With a side containing 11 players over the age of 30 and 7 over the age of 40 it was always going to be difficult against a younger side.
The game began with Diss attacking through Naz Gurgin and Keiron Baines but a mistake led to Wymondham being given space to score out wide. The scrums were solid through the return of Chris “Sooty” Smith and Diss again were soon on the attack and almost scored out wide but Wymondham defended well. Another mistake led to Wymondham try as a kick never made touch and with Diss still organising their back line Wymondham again scored.
Diss managed to get on the score board when Diss were awarded a penalty in front to of the posts after good work by Sam Jacobs and Owen Atkinson and Naz Gurgin slotted over the penalty. Again Diss let Wymondham score through a mistake as a knock on led to Wymondham being given space out wide to score again. Diss fought back and an attacking run by Ben Fidler set up Fergus Newman to score.
The second half followed the same pattern of the first half and every time Diss got close to scoring Wymondham scored a try through their pace in the backs. Diss managed to finish the game pushing for a win with two tries scored in quick concession through Chris Smith after Dave Hay had put some weight behind a rolling maul and Diss finished the game with another try through a good run by Ben Brooks who set up Fergus Newman to score his second try of the game.
