Diss travelled to Beccles with a group of players packed with youth and experience but key players returning with no match fitness. Adam Williamson returned having played no rugby all season, Max Horslen started his first game for 4 years. 2 players in the forwards were playing their first games for over a year returning from serious injury.
Diss began the game and scored in the first 5 minutes through a good run made by Andy McAlister who made space for Benny Goodman to run into and after Jack Germany had broken through some space, the ball went out wide the opposite wing for Ben Brooks to go over in the corner. Beccles returned and scored through a pack that was at least a man heavier with three tries in succession with good line out work close to the Diss try line. Diss fought back but poor line out decisions at key moments cost them dearly. Diss should have scored two tries one after the other but the referee missed a possible grounding and one try was disallowed.
The second half followed the first half as Diss began brighter but conceded an early try through more mistakes. Diss returned with a try of their own through fly-half Max Horslen after the pack had put Diss in a decent position. Jo Sides who was superb at full-back all game made various breaks but couldn’t get through. More line out failure by Diss enabled Beccles to score another try and the game ended with Beccles scoring another two tries as Diss made changes to give the squad members a run out.
