Broadland arrived at Diss with a player short and on a bad run of results and took on the Diss’s third string who probably were at their maximum strength player wise. Diss thirds were on a bad run themselves having lost 3 league games on the trot and were determined to put things right. Diss began on the front foot and never took their foot off the gas and tries cam aplenty. The returning George Gooderham ran amok from number eight and soon Diss were on the scoreboard with a try by Ewan Lawton. Seb Goodge and Adam Williamson were Diss’s half backs and they kept Diss on the front foot all game and further tries were scored in the first half by Jo Sides, Patrick Lawton, Ewan Lawton and George Gooderham. During the first half Broadland lost a player to concussion so Diss lent them the first of three players the opposition used during the game. First half ended 62-0.
Diss made changes at half time with Mike Garnham and Will Appleton coming on and also lent the opposition another player as to keep up the spirit of the game of rugby and for the first twenty minutes Broadland came back into the game and should have scored a couple of tries. They did manage to go over for one score out wide which was something they deserved after all the effort they had put in. Diss came back with a burst of tries late on with Charlie Oakes, Adam Williamson, George Gooderham and Hans Jordan going over for scores and with the last kick of the game the hundred was brought up by Seb Goodge’s conversion. The thirds next fixture with Crusaders second string will provide different opposition and a much sterner test. Will Foote will return from two weeks annual leave to lead the pack in preparation for captain Benny Goodman having two weeks well earned rest.
