Yorkshire White Rose Challenge 2015

What a fantastic way to end the 2014/15 season with a fabulous Tour to Yorkshire for the lads, coaches and parents alike.

Before going into detail about the Tour we would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone for all the effort put into developing the lads this year and supporting them wholeheartedly. They have become a Rugby Team that DISS can be proud of and I’m sure many will go on to play in the 1ST Team in years to come. These thanks go out to all the sponsors and volunteers that helped raise the funds for, not only the Match Shirts, Training Tops and Tackle Bags but also the fabulous Tour Kit you can see the guys wearing in the picture above! Also massive thanks to the Coaches, and just as importantly, the Parents that put so much time into getting the lads to training and matches, we all really appreciate this and long may this commitment continue.

The Tour itself was arranged by MiTour Ltd and hosted by Beverley RFC .The Rugby was played over two days with the games being played in a festival manner with two groups of four teams competing on day one to then go into knock out stages on day two.

It was definitely not style over substance when DISS ran out in their “dashing” Tour Kit against Biggleswade, Chelmsford and Ryton on day one, the lads played some of the best Rugby they have played all year, on a bitterly cold day, to the massive satisfaction of the touring spectators to finish the day off 3rd in their Group.

On day two the sun came out and with it brought a really fired up DISS side, their first game of the day being against Biggleswade again, to gain a place in the Cup semi- final, this was a really gritty game with some intense Rugby played to see Biggleswade just win out in the end. As a result DISS went on to face Blaydon in the Bowl semi- final. This was to be another fantastic game with both

sides playing some great Rugby. DISS played with real intelligence and put into practice some set piece work that they have worked really hard on, on the training ground. With only a few minutes to go and with DISS five points behind, DISS threw everything at Blaydon culminating in two potential tries being held up over the line to see us narrowly miss out again, so close but they put their heart and soul into the games that made all of us really proud of what they have achieved this year. With only a squad of 16 players on Tour versus squads of 20+ in many other teams, it shows the huge effort all 16 put in, we couldn’t be more proud and more importantly they all loved it!
